These works, from my series “Second City DNA”, are an exploration of identity and memory—shaped through the lens of a Southern transplant who has been fortunate to now call Chicagoland home for many years.
With camera in hand, I ventured through neighborhoods across the city, capturing the heart of Chicago in these four works: Open House Chicago focuses on local gathering spaces; Giardiniera to James Beard celebrates iconic eateries from beloved dives to award-winning institutions; Spotlights shines on the city’s vibrant entertainment venues and Won’t You be My Neighbor highlights the different ethnic backgrounds that have combined to make Chicago the city it is today.
The blending of photography with paint and charcoal reflects my evolving relationship with this adopted home—a connection so deep it feels embedded in my very DNA.
